Message An idea just POP to my head. I think that all this ordeal can be fixed if I cut the relay box on the universal power antenna. The Power antenna timer acts like the relay so there is no need to have the "aftermarket" universal relay. I just need to get both wires that goes into the motor and find out which is up and down.

:I believe that the operation behind the universal antenna is different than the Nissan antenna. I believe the Nissan antenna will go up and stay up once you cut power to it. The aftermarket antenna needs a constant 12V signal for it to stay up. I believe that the timer is cutting PIN 8 power after certain amount of time (30-40secs.) OR the signal wire from the aftermarket antenna is drawing too much current for the antenna to stay up, then it will cut out.
:Also, I tried using PIN 9 on the power antenna timer but it does the inverse. When I turn the car off or radio off, the antenna stay up indefinite, but it still doesn't work right.
:All I know is that PIN 8 provides 12VDC and PIN 9 provides ground when the radio is on. AND when the radio is off PIN 9 provides 12VDC and PIN 8 provides ground.
:ALSO, I tried bypassing the power antenna timer. I connected PIN 4 which is the radio signal directly to the signal wire of the aftermarket antenna BUT there was a voltage drop down to 3VDC if I connect the radio signal wire directly to the universal power antenna. Hence, it doesn't provide the 12VDC signal to raise the antenna cause of the voltage drop.
:I tried attacking every possible way but I can't find a remedy.
:So a universal antenna will not work the power antenna timer and connecting the signal wire from the radio won't work either?
::The FSM (Factory Service Manual) gives no explanations or procedures other than a schematic diagram of the wiring for the power antenna, and a procedure for changing the antenna mast if broken. So, taking a stab at logic, it appears that your antenna motor is operating as it should, but the timer is not. It should send voltage to the motor for 5 to 6 seconds to drive the antenna up and then shut off. The same sequence should happen when you turn the radio off, but the motor should work in the opposite direction. For some reason your timer isn't cooperating. When it drives the antenna up, do you hear the motor turn itself off, and then 18 seconds or so later you hear it start up again and pull the mast down? Or do you hear the motor start up and run continually for the entire 30 seconds? Regardless, the only way to know for sure, other than going to a Nissan Tech who has solved a similar situation, would be to find another Z32 owner who will allow you to swap his timer for yours, long enough to see if it corrects the problem. Then you'll know for sure if you need to replace your timer or look further for help. I don't suggest buying a new timer first, because if the new timer doesn't solve the problem, because the part is electrical you won't be able to return it. Can you source a used one from a recycling yard? eBay?
